Katherine - Head of Services

What did you used to do?

Before working at HILS I worked at Hertfordshire County Council, on their graduate management training programme. I worked in different departments (learning disability accommodation, corporate policy, and property management) over the course of my two years there. Before that, I worked in the NHS in administration, whilst I was studying for my degree.

How long have you been at HILS?

I started at HILS in April 2013 (!) so over 6 years now. The time has absolutely flown by and the organisation is completely different from when I started.

What does your job entail?

My role is Director of Services, which means I have overall responsibility for making sure that the services our teams deliver to clients are safe, effective, and high-quality. A lot of my role is about making sure that our teams have the support and guidance that they need to do their jobs to the best of their ability, as well as making sure our clients are safe and well. As part of the Executive Team, I am also responsible for the strategic development of the organisation and its services and making sure that HILS is the best it can be.

Why do you enjoy working for HILS?

I love my colleagues, they really feel like a work family. I love that everyone is passionate about the organisation and what we do – it’s a privilege to work with a team that cares very much and supports each other. I enjoy the feeling of knowing that we are making a difference to people’s lives which makes the long or challenging days worthwhile. I love that every day is different and it’s literally impossible to get bored!

What’s your favourite thing about HILS?

The constant supply of snacks? Or, the fact that the organisation is innovative, ambitious, and passionate about driving change. We have high standards for ourselves and the organisation and work hard to achieve them. Working somewhere so unique in the country is exciting; it’s very cool to be at the forefront of our sector – leading the charge in preventative services nationally from our little corner of the world!
