Providing comfort to isolated older and vulnerable people with a Hug By Post

UPDATE: This campaign has closed. We would like to thank all those who participated in our ‘Hugs By Post’ campaign, we look forward to sharing these with our clients and updating you soon!

Despite the challenging circumstances we face, Hertfordshire Independent Living Service (HILS) and London Independent Living Service (LILS) are continuing to support almost 3,000 older and vulnerable people across Hertfordshire and London, by delivering essential Meals on Wheels, and Emergency Food and Grocery Bag services. Unfortunately, many clients live alone and have been left feeling disconnected and isolated during this time.

We’re asking for your support to help our clients feel more connected with their local community. We’re inviting young artists across Hertfordshire and London to send us a comforting message, a poem, or a colourful drawing which we will distribute to our clients so that they know people are thinking about them and that they’re not alone. Please include your name, age and where you’re from.

You can send your creation to us by post (see address below) or take it to a designated drop-off point displayed on the map below. We need thousands of people to get involved in order to send a drawing to each of our clients, so pick up your pencils and get creating! If you would like to share this project with your community group, please feel free to use the following resources to help people get involved:
